Description

Colombia Series Directional Sheet

Colombia is a directional homogeneous sheet: colour and grain are fused through the full section under heat and pressure, so there is no printed face to rub through and no backing that can delaminate. A scuff, a gouge or years of trolley traffic expose the same colour as the floor around it.

Each roll of this vinyl flooring is sized to cover a ward corridor or a classroom wing in one drop, leaving fewer seams to groove, weld and trim. The face is UV-cured and finished with PUR PROTECT; the sheet is antistatic by construction, rated P class for wear and R9 for wet slip, and fire-rated B1.

This is the edition we build and document for projects in Colombia and the wider South American market, with colour quoted from the swatch card and test data issued with the order. Because it is a homogeneous vinyl flooring sheet rather than a layered one, a hospital corridor, an airport concourse and a school hall can share one specification that behaves the same way in all three.

Working With a Directional Grain

  • The grain runs the length of the roll, so every sheet in a room is laid the same way round. Agree the run with the installer before the first cut: taken down the corridor rather than across it, the grain draws the eye along the space and crosswise joints almost disappear.
  • Because the pattern sits in the material rather than on it, a long corridor does not change tone where one drop ends and the next begins.
  • Twenty-four directional colour combinations run from warm browns and golden tones through pale beiges to reddish orange, so departments or floors can be coded without changing product.
  • Damage takes the same grain as the floor beside it: the area is cut back, patched from the same batch and re-welded.
  • Direction is no handicap on a commercial vinyl flooring schedule; straight-run corridors, wards and concourses are exactly where a full-width roll laid lengthwise performs most effectively.
  • Order the whole elevation at once, and place it as a vinyl flooring wholesale order rather than in stages. A later delivery cut in a different run direction reads as two floors meeting at a seam.

Colour References, Roll Size and Site Quantities

Every colour in the range carries a reference, printed on the swatch — K-HG-5034 is one example. Put that reference on the order rather than a description of the colour, and keep the approved sample on site: it is the only reliable check against a delivery, and it is what a later phase is matched to.

One roll covers 40 m². Build the take-off from the drawing with a trimming allowance at walls, columns and doorways, because a schedule priced on net floor area alone comes up short once seams and margins are cut away.

Phased handovers are the reason to fix quantities early. Where a building is released floor by floor, tell us the full requirement at the start so the whole vinyl flooring wholesale order can be produced against one reference; that is the simplest way to keep a large area visually uniform from the first phase to the last.

Antistatic, Wear and Load Behaviour

  • Wear is rated P class, the band written into specifications for public and commercial traffic, so the sheet belongs on concourses and corridors rather than in occasional-use rooms.
  • Electrical resistance returns above 10^9. It is a property of the compound, not a topical layer that a scrubbing machine can strip away over a few years.
  • Caster chair testing reports no damage, and residual indentation is measured, so beds, trolleys and chair legs leave no permanent dent behind them.
  • The sheet weighs little for its performance: rolls are carried and positioned by two people, and the load added to a structural slab stays modest on upper floors and refurbishments.
  • Chemical resistance is rated good, which covers the disinfectants and iodine-based reagents used in treatment rooms and laboratories.
  • The compound is dense and homogeneous with no foamed backing, which is the difference between a pvc vinyl flooring sheet that is maintained and one that is replaced.

Heat, Humidity and Cleaning Chemistry

Hot, humid climates test sheet flooring at the joints and edges rather than in the middle of the roll. Dimensional stability and resistance to curl from heat are both tested, and the antibacterial and fungicidal performance is rated good, which is what keeps a floor laid on a coastal or tropical site from opening at the seams through its first wet season.

Most vinyl flooring problems come from cleaning rather than from traffic. The PUR PROTECT face is closed and smooth, so soil lifts with a damp mop and no polish, wax or acrylic emulsion is needed to keep the appearance; the sheet is designed to be maintained without that layer.

Two limits are worth stating plainly. Antibacterial and fungicidal performance is a property of the material, not a substitute for an infection-control procedure, and an antistatic sheet is not a conductive floor for a hazardous area — if your electrical specification sets a target value, send it before the order so it can be checked. Solvents, aggressive strippers and any new disinfectant should be spot-tested on an offcut first.

Hospitals, Clinics and Treatment Areas

  • Wards and patient rooms: a welded sheet with coved skirting gives a continuous surface wall to wall, with no joint for dust or fluid to collect in and no edge for a bed frame to catch.
  • Corridors under bed and trolley traffic: caster chair testing reports no damage, which matches what a hospital corridor actually carries — beds, trolleys, wheelchairs and scrubber-driers through the day.
  • Treatment rooms and laboratories: iodine-based disinfectants and staining reagents fall inside the chemical resistance rating, and the face does not need recoating to stay cleanable.
  • Imaging and equipment rooms: antistatic behaviour belongs to the material, so it does not rely on a maintenance programme to keep working.
  • Cleaning inside a working department: with no polish to apply or strip, a corridor can be washed and returned to use within a ward round.
  • A commercial vinyl flooring package for the clinical zone: ward, corridor and treatment room share one product, one colour system and one cleaning method.

Schools, Airports and Office Buildings

Schools load a floor in short bursts — several hundred pairs of shoes between lessons, chairs dragged rather than lifted, and a cleaning window measured in minutes. A dense sheet copes with that pattern because there is no foam layer to crush and no printed skin to wear through where chairs are pushed back from desks; classrooms, science rooms, canteens and corridors take the same material, with the colour changed to mark a block or a key stage.

Airports and transport concourses are the other extreme: luggage wheels, cleaning machines and sight lines that run the length of the hall. The directional grain pulls the eye down the concourse and the through-colour keeps the floor even where traffic concentrates. Offices and commercial complexes ask for a higher appearance standard at lighter traffic, and the sheet takes castors, fit-out boots and chair drag without holding the marks.

On upper floors and in refurbishment the weight matters as much as the wear. A pvc vinyl flooring sheet of this thickness adds little load to the slab, which is often what lets an existing building take a new floor without structural work.

Welding Rod, Skirting and Stair Details

  • Adhesive: a water-based acrylic for the sheet and for matching stair treads, low in odour, which matters when the floor goes into a building that is already occupied.
  • Welding rod: PVC rod in the matching colour, so a correctly grooved and trimmed seam reads as part of the floor rather than a line across it.
  • Skirting and cove: cove former and coved skirting turn the wall junction into a washable curve instead of a dirt trap, with vinyl skirting and capping strips finishing the top edge.
  • Transitions: strips at doorways and changes of floor close the edge and take out a trip line.
  • Stairs: treads with an aluminium or PVC nosing finish the flight in the same colour family, which matters where a corridor and its stairs are seen together.
  • Wall protection: handrails, wall guards and corner guards absorb the trolley strikes that would otherwise reach the wall or the floor edge.
  • One delivery: sheet, rod, skirting and stair parts are quoted together in vinyl flooring wholesale quantities, so the edges and the stairs are not a separate purchase arriving on a separate date.

Ordering, Packing and Export Paperwork

  1. Fix the colour reference and the area. Quote the reference from the swatch and add a trimming allowance to the take-off before the order is placed.
  2. Set out the release plan. If the building hands over in stages, say so at the start; minimum quantity and project stocking rules are confirmed per order.
  3. Agree payment terms: TT/LC.
  4. Plan production and dispatch. Standard production and dispatch runs to 7-15 days, confirmed against your programme when the order is placed.
  5. Agree packing for sea freight. Rolls are wrapped and marked for site delivery, and can travel in a mixed container with adhesive, skirting or stair components.
  6. Agree the documents. For shipments to Colombia and elsewhere in South America, tell us what your broker needs — invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and any origin paperwork or legalisation your importer requires — and we confirm what can be provided for that shipment.
  7. Ask for the test report pack and the maintenance recommendations for the cleaning contractor with the order, so the handover file is complete before the floor goes down.
  8. Have the warranty scope confirmed in writing on the order confirmation rather than taken from a brochure.

FAQ

Where does the Colombia series fit within the product range?

In busy public interiors where the floor is cleaned on a schedule and cannot be closed for replacement: hospitals and clinics, schools and universities, airports and transport halls, offices and government buildings. It is a commercial vinyl flooring sheet with a P-class wear rating, so concourses and ward corridors are its natural home, and a full-width roll keeps seams out of long runs. Distribution floors and back-of-house circulation take the same material where the traffic is on wheels.

How do I set out a directional pattern before cutting?

Decide the run direction with the installer and mark it on the substrate before the first cut: every drop of this pvc vinyl flooring is laid the same way round, because the grain runs the length of the roll. Take it down the corridor rather than across it, and keep crosswise joints out of the main sight line and away from doorways. Where a room changes axis, plan the change at a wall or a doorway so it reads as deliberate.

Does heat and humidity affect the sheet?

Less than it affects the site practice around it. The sheet is tested for dimensional stability and resistance to curl from heat, and its antibacterial and fungicidal performance is rated good, so it is expected to stay flat and cleanable in a hot, humid climate. What matters on site is letting the rolls condition flat in the room before cutting, keeping them out of direct sun, and confirming the adhesive for the substrate and the climate; an un-air-conditioned building behaves differently from a finished one.

What electrical resistance does the sheet reach?

Tested to EN 1081, the result sits above 10^9, which is the antistatic range rather than a conductive one. Because this is a homogeneous vinyl flooring sheet, the behaviour runs through the material instead of sitting in a coating that wear or scrubbing can remove. If your specification sets a particular target value for an equipment or imaging room, send it before the order so the sheet can be checked against it.

Which cleaning chemicals is it expected to resist?

It is built to stand up to the disinfectants, iodine-based reagents and everyday spills a hospital, laboratory or school canteen produces. The closed PUR face holds a spill on the surface long enough to be wiped away instead of soaking in. Solvents, aggressive strippers and any unfamiliar disinfectant should be spot-tested on an offcut first, and each product should be used at the dilution on its own label.

What does one roll cover, and what should be ordered with it?

A roll gives you a long continuous run; work the take-off with a trimming allowance for walls, columns and doorways. Order the finishing items at the same time — water-based acrylic adhesive, PVC welding rod in the matching colour, cove former and skirting, transition strips, and stair treads with an aluminium or PVC nosing — so tones and profiles are matched before dispatch. All of it comes from one catalogue and travels as a single vinyl flooring order where the programme allows.

What fire rating and slip resistance does it carry?

Fire rating is B1, and slip resistance is R9 wet with a dry value of ≥0.3 — the band normally written into public-building specifications for circulation areas. Sound reduction is around 4 dB and colour fastness is ≥6. Check the values against your fire strategy and risk assessment, since the class required depends on the building and the room.
